And every option today is a bad one: do it yourself on nights and weekends, hand 5–8% of collections to a billing service (Tebra report), surrender the payer relationship to a network, or leave insurance entirely. This administrative burden, not the medicine, is the single biggest reason independent practice is so hard to sustain.
